Organization Description
Civil Protection Youth Canada’s mission is to equip and empower the next generation with hands-on training and skills to anticipate, prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from disasters; and to close the gap between those affected and those addressing the challenges.
Products & Services:
- Service delivery to all levels of government (municipal, provincial and federal) to assist our collective efforts to enhance individual/community/national resilience as part of climate change adaptation.
- Through youth engagement and leadership, we build sustainable adult operational, technical disaster capacity and readiness locally; scalable regionally, provincially and nationally. This includes a certification process and tasks such as flood protection, urban search and rescue, debris clearance, infrastructure repair, integration of spontaneous volunteers and many more!
- A variety of outreach and active outdoor activities around the theme of readiness and resilience, for both the young and young at heart. For example: skill development or teambuilding workshops, day camp, disaster resilience days cluster, CPYC induction weekends, handicrafts and crafts days, CPYC wilderness HQ fieldtrip destination, nature excursions with a purpose (e.g. learning about hazards in the National Capital Region and how to prepare your household to mitigate impact, combined with a hike along our Civil Protection Discovery Trail and a picnic at one of our many enchanted wilderness sites), and possibly also the option for schools to rent our nature space for their own outdoor ed purposes (TBD).
- Our programs have a strong focus on healthy outdoor activity, nature and team spirit, hands-on skills with everyday applicability, strengthening of confidence and resourcefulness.
