ABOUT
Unleashed 2019, powered by the Centre for Social Enterprise Development, is a half-day conference featuring networking opportunities, panel discussions and breakouts designed to bring innovators, motivators, doers and disruptors together to learn and share their insights, nurture ideas and help formulate strategies around Ottawa’s growing social enterprise landscape.
The theme this year is balancing strategy and operations for growth and impact. To be successful, social enterprises must meet customer expectations and drive operational performance in the short term while ensuring that their organization remains relevant over the long term. Hear from social enterprise practitioners and other ecosystem players on what they’re doing to find this balance and the advice they have for others.
WHO WILL BE ATTENDING
- Veteran and emerging social entrepreneurs looking to expand their impact through strategic growth
- Representatives from charities and not-for-profit organizations exploring the start-up of a social enterprise
- Funders and agencies who support the capacity building activities of the sector
- Public and private sector delegates interested in engaging with the social enterprise sector
- Other agencies/stakeholders who want to join and support Ottawa’s rich social enterprise ecosystem.
Expect to be inspired while exploring the balance between strategy and operations.

SPEAKERS
Marco Pagani
Following a long, illustrious career as a senior executive in Ottawa’s high-tech sector, Marco Pagani became President and CEO of the Ottawa Community Foundation (OCF) in January 2014. Known as a passionate and energetic leader, Marco is recognized as a strategic thinker who has consistently guided companies and organizations through difficult, but critically necessary turnarounds, leading to significant economic gains for stakeholders. Moreover, he is respected for placing a strong emphasis on ethics and corporate governance in building the corporate culture of the organizations he leads and advises. Since taking over the helm of the OCF, Marco has set and met a series of ambitious targets, including bringing in close to $25 million in his first year, as well as improving the Foundation’s brand profile and reputation for innovation. Under his leadership, it launched the city’s first New Leaf Community Challenge, providing a $125 thousand dollar grant to address critical issues such as youth unemployment and food security and access to healthy, affordable food. He has also become a key player in a variety of community development and city-building initiatives that will help shape the Ottawa of the future.
Ian Bingeman
Ian Bingeman comes to Ottawa by way of Victoria, Kingston, and Kitchener. His hardest (and most rewarding!) job was the years he spent as the D.A.D. (Domestic Administration Dude) while his children were young. Now a teacher, Ian was drawn to working for Youth Ottawa not only because it fosters great opportunities for youth, but also, and more importantly, because it channels the passion, conscience, and brilliance which is natural to youth and necessary to the world. Ian holds Bachelor degrees in English and Education, earned a Master’s degree in English, and is a proud graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada.
Aleatha Bedard-Poole
Aleatha is a Senior Advisor on the Strategy Deployment and Governance team at BDC where she has been dedicated to working with entrepreneurs over the last ten years of her career.
