Many neurodivergent adults find themselves to be at an impasse. As individuals graduate from support programs or secondary school and seek to transition and participate in the world of jobs, they often find themselves without many choices. Most individuals find, too, that there is a lack of options that enable continued, progressive engagement in society and in their own personal development and connection.

Our members have the opportunity for real involvement in growing social belonging through their creations and co-creations.

Not only is theSpace a gathering place, it is a platform for building lifelong community networks, which in turn harness new resources and innovation.

theSpace also supports individuals who are often not fully represented or given a voice or a platform to express personal agency within so many mainstream programs–introducing an approach which instead moves away from traditional notions of ‘a job’, and toward an embodiment of more broad forms of social citizenship and identity.

theSpace operates an online store of items designed by its members. Proceeds are shared directly with artists.

Beaded Dreams https://csedottawa.ca/ottawa-se-directory/listing/beaded-dreams/ Tue, 03 Sep 2024 21:15:35 +0000 https://csedottawa.ca/ottawa-se-directory/listing/beaded-dreams/ When I was just a young one, my parents took my brother and I out on the Pow Wow trail where they’d sell their handmade goods and we’d all share in an experience like no other. Some of the best memories of my childhood were from these road trips, traveling from place to place across Canada and the United States. In 1994, my parents opened up their very own Native arts and crafts store in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada – They named it Beaded Dreams. Over the years they’ve gained loyal customers while making new ones all the time, and in 2007, they passed Beaded Dreams down to me and I’ve been taking care of this baby ever since.

We sell a range of items including jewelry, moccasins and mitts, dreamcatchers, Native art, handmade candles and soaps, smudge medicines (ie. sage), books, stones and crystals, craft supplies and much more.

ur workshops are available in person (at your office or facility), virtually, or a combination of both. We can host groups ranging from 10 to 1,000 people depending on the workshop and location. We can also tailor our content to your unique audience or needs.

Each participant assembles a traditional Indigenous craft while learning about its history and significance. We also discuss topics like truth and reconciliation, providing an open environment to ask questions without judgment.

Multifaith Housing Initiative – MHI https://csedottawa.ca/ottawa-se-directory/listing/multifaith-housing-initiative-mhi/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 18:59:59 +0000 https://csedottawa.ca/ottawa-se-directory/?post_type=rtcl_listing&p=3711 Multifaith Housing Initiative (MHI) exists to build affordable housing that helps fix Ottawa’s housing crisis and gets at-risk people into secure, safe homes. You don’t need us to tell you about housing issues and homelessness in our communities, you can see it for yourself.  Traditional practices have not been working… so MHI has adopted a different approach. We are a coalition of faith groups who work with local businesses, civil society, the City of Ottawa and federal/provincial governments to build and house our communities for the future. This new way of working has created homes for more than 400 people, with more on the way. It has opened up new ways to gather the commitment, skills and resources that build homes and strengthen communities. To have a safe, secure, affordable home is life changing.

MHI owns a total of 134 units, housing between 300 and 400 people
