A new social financing program designed to help social enterprises scale up their operations has come to Ottawa. Led by CSED, UNCAPPED is made possible with the support of the Province of Ontario’s Social Enterprise Demonstration Fund (SEDF), Alterna Savings, Ottawa Community Foundation and United Way Ottawa.
The aim of UNCAPPED is to overcome funding barriers and gaps faced by social enterprises at various stages of development and with diverse legal structures.
HOW DOES UNCAPPED WORK?
UNCAPPED offers a range of financial products including grants, loans and a combination of the two, as well as supportive assistance from CSED in deciding on the right product, and preparing the funding application. UNCAPPED’s multi-step, highly supportive process includes:
- submitting an expression of interest form;
- participating in a social financing workshop;
- meeting with a CSED team member to decide upon the financing option that best meets the social enterprise’s needs, and;
- coaching the enterprise through the preparation of their business plan and funding application.
The team at CSED is committed to working with each participating social enterprise as they consider and move through the UNCAPPED process.
WHO SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PROGRAM?
Social enterprises with an operating history that have plans to grow should definitely consider UNCAPPED. Some of the financing is limited to registered charities or non-profits.
